RULES
RACA GRAVEL DAYS
The RACE ACROSS AUSTRIA GRAVEL DAY is a self-supported bike race.
The usual guidelines and codes of honor of the bikepacking movement apply.
Every participant is on the road at their own risk.
The event type is a cycle tourism event.
There will be no road closures, but participants must comply with the Austrian Road Traffic Regulations (StVO 1960), the contents of which participants must familiarize themselves with before the start of the event.
General information

You must be at least 18 years old before the first day of the event.

The following bicycles are allowed: gravel bike, cyclocross, mountain bike.

Drafting is allowed at GRAVEL DAYS!

The briefing and technical check always take place at 7:20 a.m. on the day of the start in the start area and are mandatory for every participant!

You must have a valid liability, death, accident and health insurance that is valid during the event and covers emergency and repatriation insurance. It is important that your insurance covers you for an amateur event. By signing the disclaimer, you also confirm that you have this insurance coverage!

First aid in the event of an accident is mandatory. Helping fellow participants with technical problems is a matter of honor and allowed.

Waste belongs in the trash can and not on the roadside/in the forest.

You cannot expect service or support after the official time limit.

Follow the instructions of the crew, they only do this for your safety and for the good running of the event.

There is no broom wagon. In the event of premature termination due to technical, weather or health reasons, you must organize your own journey home.

Austrian road traffic regulations must be observed.

You agree that the photos, film recordings and other sound or image recordings made in connection with the event may be published and also used for advertising purposes for future events of the organizer. This does not result in any claim for remuneration.

You expressly confirm the correctness of all data provided by you. You also agree that the data provided in the registration may be stored electronically and that your name will be displayed on a public list of participants.

The registration will be confirmed after receipt of payment, after which the starting place is considered secure. There will be no refund in the event of cancellation. You can book suitable cancellation insurance in the registration form.

The use of photo and film material taken on the course and during the event is prohibited for commercial purposes and for sponsors or other companies.
Self-Supported

You must complete the entire route from start to finish alone and without outside help, with your own bike. Drive aids (e-bikes) of any kind are not allowed. Swapping bikes on the road is only allowed in exceptional cases and with the prior agreement of the race organizers. You are responsible for breaks, meals and any repairs.

The use of publicly accessible facilities and services such as bike shops, restaurants, snack bars, hotels, motels, B&B, supermarkets, shops, bakeries, etc. is expressly permitted.

Help and support such as food, replacement material from accompanying persons such as friends or family members is not permitted.

Accompanying persons, photographers, filmmakers and support vehicles of any kind are not allowed on the entire route. Spectators are allowed at the side of the road as long as they do not provide you with any kind of help.

Setting up additional private material depots on the route is not allowed.
Route / Itinerary

The organizer will provide you with the entire route, from start to finish, in the form of a GPS track (GPX file) one weeks before the start.

You must follow this predetermined route/itinerary from start to finish. Taking shortcuts or changing the route in any way is not permitted.
Exceptions are ordered diversions or route changes (construction sites, severe weather, etc.) -
You have to navigate the whole route yourself.

You must always follow the traffic rules and expect other road users and adjust your driving accordingly.

If you leave the route for a stop, to visit a bicycle mechanic, etc., you must rejoin the route at exactly the same point in order to continue your journey correctly.

You are at your own risk and responsibility at all times. The route is NOT closed off. The traffic rules according to STVO must ALWAYS be observed. The organizer strictly rejects any liability!
Maximum permitted times
The time limits of the events will be calculated based on the start times of the participants and participation in the RACA GRAVEL DAY is set to the following:

100 kilometers: 10 hours
Checkpoints / Control

For GRAVEL DAY participants there will be a manual timekeeping with a result list. Your total time for the result list is calculated from the start and finish time.

You must always carry an activated and switched-on mobile phone with the WhatsApp app from the start to the finish to enable communication with the race management at all times.

With the provided “GRAVEL DAY CHECKPOINT” card, you must drive to and punch at checkpoints that are set before the respective event.

Race management and all officials are authorized to monitor the race. Both can stop you to inform you about the rules and safety regulations and, if necessary, impose penalties or even disqualify you.
Equipment / gear
There are some pieces of equipment that we require all participants to have. This is primarily for your own safety.
These items will be checked during the technical check before the event.
The following equipment is mandatory for GRAVEL DAY participants:

Bike computer or mobile phone (navigation) with the provided GPX data

Mobile phone with WhatsApp app

First-aid kit
Penalties for rule violations
There will be several visible and invisible officials on the course to ensure a fair and sporting event.
If a participant observes a fellow competitor violating the rules, they can and will be asked to report it to the race management or the officials. Clear documentation, evidence such as photos and videos, is a basic requirement.
The organizer can check compliance with these regulations before, during and after the event and, at their own discretion, immediately impose the following penalties.
1. Leaving the route – Any participant who leaves the route must resume it from where they left it.
A participant who has cut across the route in any way will be sanctioned as follows: –
A participant's time saving is between 0 and 60 minutes = a penalty of 2 hours will be incurred
A participant's time saving is between 31 and 60 minutes > a penalty of 3 hours will be incurred
The participant will be disqualified for cutting the route on the 3rd offense.
2. Unauthorized media vehicle = disqualification
3. Littering = 3-hour penalty
4. Missing the mandatory safety equipment such as a helmet
5. No assistance – first aid for a person in difficulty = disqualification
6. Use of a bicycle that has not been registered with the organization = 4-hour penalty
7. Use of a means of transport, sharing a start number, or holding on to a moving vehicle = immediate disqualification
8. Non-compliance with the road traffic regulations = 2-hour penalty
9. Refusal to follow instructions from the event management, a supervisor or police officer, a doctor or a first aider = disqualification
10. Refusal of an anti-doping test > immediate and lifelong disqualification
Time penalties are incurred immediately, at the latest as soon as the driver crosses the finish line.
Disqualification penalties are effective immediately and the driver will be informed as soon as the race committee has made a decision.
Any other violation of the rules will be sanctioned by the event management.
Liability/legal recourse
Participation in the RACE ACROSS AUSTRIA GRAVEL DAY is at your own risk. The organizer excludes any liability for personal injury or property damage. No liability claims can be asserted against the organizer. Insurance against accident, illness or theft, as well as for personal liability, is the responsibility of each participant. By registering for the RACE ACROSS AUSTRIA GRAVEL DAY, each participant accepts and signs the RACE ACROSS AUSTRIA disclaimer and releases the organizer and his assistants, to the extent permitted by law, from all liability claims.
Final provisions
Anyone who violates one or more points of these regulations will be excluded from the RACE ACROSS AUSTRIA GRAVEL DAY.
The organization can exclude drivers from the start without giving reasons.
By registering for the RACE ACROSS AUSTRIAGRAVEL DAY, you accept all the conditions stated in these regulations.
These regulations can be adapted or changed at any time.
